Flow Hockey Development: Founded by Hockey Canada Certified Skills Coach Ty Lewis

At Flow Hockey Development, our mission has always been simple: help players at every level unlock their full potential on the ice through elite skating and skill development. And it all started with one person's passion and experience — our founder, Ty Lewis.

Ty Lewis: From WHL Standout to Pro Prospect to Elite Coach

Born and raised in Brandon, Manitoba, Ty Lewis grew up immersed in hockey in the heart of Wheat Kings country. He went on to play parts of three seasons with the Brandon Wheat Kings in the Western Hockey League (WHL), where he made a real impact. In his overage (19-year-old) season, Ty exploded for a 100-point campaign (44 goals and 56 assists), earning alternate captain honors and showcasing the kind of speed, skill, and compete that turned heads.

Undrafted but determined, Ty earned a three-year entry-level contract with the Colorado Avalanche in the NHL. He spent time developing in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Colorado Eagles, honing his game at the professional level before transitioning from player to coach.

With deep roots in the Westman region and years of high-level experience, Ty brought that same drive to coaching. He became a Hockey Canada Certified Skills Coach and spent over a decade running development sessions — including recent work as a skills coach with the Brandon Wheat Kings. He also helped guide the U15 AAA Wheat Kings to back-to-back provincial titles, the first in Brandon's history — proving his ability to build winners at the grassroots level.

Launching Flow Hockey Development in Early 2023

In early 2023, Ty took the next step and founded Flow Hockey Development right here in Southern Manitoba. The goal? Deliver affordable, high-quality training that mirrors junior and pro development systems, with a laser focus on elite skating and skill development for players from novice to pro.

We specialize in programs for ages U7 all the way through U18, high school/AA/A, junior/college, and even pro players. Our sessions emphasize:

  • Skating mechanics (balance, posture, efficient stride for more power and speed)
  • Edge work (tight turns, escapes, transitions)
  • Puck skills (handling under pressure, deception, protection)
  • Game-speed drills combining power skating, shooting, conditioning, and position-specific work

Whether you're a young player building fundamentals or a seasoned forward/defenseman sharpening your edge, Flow Hockey is designed to make you faster, sharper, and more confident.

Steady Growth and a Loyal Community

Since day one, Flow Hockey has grown year after year thanks to our results-oriented approach and the dedication of our players and families. We're proud of our 94% return rate — a testament to the progress players see and the positive environment we create.

We've expanded beyond traditional camps to better serve the region:

  • Caravans traveling to small towns across Southwest Manitoba, bringing elite training closer to home for minor hockey groups and communities.
  • A popular Summer Track Program (off-ice, 5 weeks/10 sessions in May-June) focused on building power, explosiveness, sprints, quickness, and hockey-specific conditioning for U18/JR/college/pro players.
  • Year-round options: special winter and pre-season performance programs, plus our well-known summer camps running from July to September each year — featuring powerskating, speed & agility, battle skills, shooting & scoring, position-specific sessions (like Developing Dynamic Defensemen or Elite Forwards), intensity/flow drills, and even all-summer scrimmage series.

From the ice at Sportsplex Arena and Enns Brothers Arena in Brandon to off-ice sessions that build the foundation for on-ice success, we're committed to helping the next generation of Manitoba hockey players thrive.
